How to Get There

By Road

The Narrowboat 'Oliver" is moored at the Welton Hythe Marina. which is on a spur of the Grand Union Canal near Daventry. The access road to the Marina is just off the A5 (the old Roman Road that used to be called Watling Street - it's the straight green line on the map to the left).

To get there, the basic rule is to get to junction 16 of the M1; take the A45 to Weedon, and join the A5 north from there. Welton Hythe Marina is 5.5 miles north, on the left. A picture of the turn is shown below.

Here are more detailed directions from various points of the compass, courtesy of the AA.

From the North (Manchester)

From the East (Cambridge)

Anywhere else in the UK, Ireland or Continental Europe

By Rail

There is a railway station at Long Buckby, 2.6 miles away door to door. It's a lot closer if you walk the towpath from Welton Hythe to Buckby Wharf, and then pick up the road to Long Buckby.

This station is on the Birmigham - Northampton - London line, and the service is operated by Silverlink. If you are carrying luggage, then you will need a taxi to take you to the mooring. Here are two services in Long Buckby:

Taxi Freephone:  (0800) 123 444

The Village Shuttle:  (01327) 842 961
